Unraveling Kundalini: 42 Days of Transformation
Embarking on my journey into Kundalini Yoga has been a multi-faceted experience. As I recently wrapped up my intensive 500-hour yoga teacher training at the Alaya School of Yoga, my heart is drawn towards the intricate weave of yoga practices that support our nervous system, our whole health, and our wellbeing. These practices have beautifully intertwined with the Nidra practices that
.. have become a cornerstone of my morning Sadhana routine.
But there's more to it.
As of today, I am 42 days deep into my exploration of daily Kundalini practice. But why, you may ask, am I counting the days? It all began as a challenge posed by one of my coaches: to dive into something wholeheartedly for 30 days. And when I reached that milestone, a new challenge emerged: why not another 30 days?
It's the principle of momentum that I've begun to deeply respect.
The notion of change, unwavering consistency, and embracing a focus that's refreshingly unfamiliar. Kundalini, with its myriad of movements, pranayama, kriyas, and mantras, seeks to unpattern our existing neural pathways. This helps in paving new avenues for self-healing. Admittedly, for a first-timer, these practices might seem a tad awkward. Yet, their profound impact is undeniable. You undeniably feel energy, emotions, images, tension release, and transformation inside.
Let me share an enlightening experience from today:
In the hustle and bustle of our tech-savvy world, Yogi Bhajan highlights the strain our brain and eyes endure.
He suggests a unique combination of mudra and breathwork that encourages the circulation of spinal fluid, thereby invigorating the brain. Today, after a mere 20 minutes of this kriya practice, the weariness in my eyes and mind was replaced with renewed vitality. My eye twitch and headache lifted.
As somatic practitioners, we take control of our nervous system, aware of our current inner states, and know we can bring conscious awareness, new energy, and transform stuck states. As meditators, we aim to heighten our presence awareness.
“Today's Kundalini practice was a beautiful dance of meditation in motion and a brightness of energy unfolding into a new state of being.”
This 42-day journey has been transformative, teaching me gratitude even when the road ahead seems daunting.
New practices have pushed my boundaries, taking me out of my comfort zone, but it's in these moments of discomfort that growth truly occurs. As I look ahead, I am excited to revisit my roots at Phoenix Rising, where my training journey began.
With each passing day, I understand more about our evolutionary journey as practitioners. Our myriad gurus light our path, teaching us invaluable lessons at every bend.
In the realm of Kundalini, I've come to realize that we're all on a journey of evolution, consistently learning, growing, and transforming with each breath.
